Chris was born and raised in a small town in Illinois. He spent his teen years doing volunteer work during his high school years and was trained to be a Certified Nursing Assistant. He volunteered as a storm chaser, paramedic, firefighter, police officer, and received an award for Community Service at his graduation. After high school he went to college to study psychology and sociology. He was married in 2001 to his wife Rita, and was with her until she passed away in 2006. He then started his transition to become the woman he wanted to be since he was 2 years old. Chris legally became Crystal in March of 2007. While in Illinois during her transition she started attending meetings of Chi Tri-Ess for support. Crystal also started attending the Be-All Conference in Chicago. In July of 2007 she moved to North Carolina to be with her family. While there she attended meetings at Phoenix Transgender Support, PFLAG Asheville, and became involved in Asheville Pridefest. In June 2008 she met a person at the Be-All Conference, and they became close friends. Soon after, she moved to Denver, Colorado to be with her friend and now wife. Since she has arrived in Denver, she got involved with the transgender community. She became involved with the Creating Change Conference, The Gender Identity Center of Colorado, Goldrush Conference, Mayor's Commission, PFLAG Denver, DignityDenver, and Transaction. As the former Transgender Advocate at the GLBT Center of Colorado, she Is now doing advocacy on a new level. She continues to work with transgender organizations, transgender individuals, transgender allies, and others that are interested in advancing the transgender community.
